Cultivation Technician

Job Description

The Cultivation Technician role involves working in a large cutting-edge commercial grow facility, utilizing techniques that ensure quality, efficacy, and safety, adhering to all AGMEDICA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Working under the leadership of the Grower Team Lead, perform tasks associated with cloning of cannabis plants including cutting, transplanting, and pinching. Additionally, work on the cultivation team assisting in the growing process: pruning, defoliating, and harvesting. Other duties will include cleaning and administering bio and cultural controls. Working as a cooperative member of the cultivation team.

Major Duties

  • Working with a group or individually as a Cultivation Technician,

  • perform safe and effective pest scouting, pruning, and harvesting of cannabis product.

  • Clone/prop; care for the newly cut clones

  • Barcode each cannabis plant, from the vegetative room to the final harvested bulk and dried cannabis products.

  • Ensure proper sanitation of area equipment and production hallways and rooms as per SOP,

  • Destroy plant debris and waste products; recording the data following the existing approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the destruction of product;

  • Document in the Batch Production Record (BPR) and associated forms for each cannabis lot. Follow and document clone, plant and product transfer across Vegetative, Growing, Flowering, Harvesting, and Drying rooms;

  • Maintain a clean working environment, possessing an attitude of high standards of cleanliness be the example for crew members;

  • Prepare Rock wool per AgMedica guidelines, properly cut blocks, store according to instructions, monitor inventory;

  • Perform a “Prestart Line Clearance” of all equipment and areas within production, including grow and drying rooms, using proper cleaner dilution and sanitizer solution;

  • Working to ensuring product is free from risk of contamination at all stages of production, follow procedures for flower and vegetative room;

  • Familiar with pest and pathogen controls to treat for insects, disease, molds, and mildew; place/attach biologics as required;

  • Have the foresight to recognize potential hazards, production problems and contamination risks; report findings and/or concerns to growers or designate.

  • Under the guidance of the Quality Assurance team, follow checks and balances for quality, efficacy, and safety; minimizing contamination and waste of product;

Other Duties

  • Work with the production team, perform safe cultivation practices and daily work tasks, follow work schedules, along with participating in performance reviews and investigations.

  • Employ professional and clear communication practices to maintain a positive and progressive team atmosphere across all departments.

  • Comply with all HR policies, including confidentiality and non-disclosure.

  • Carry out other duties as assigned by either the Master or Assistant Grower.

Requirements

  • Always adhere to AGMEDICA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to obtain quality, efficacy and safety in all stages of the grow and cultivation process;

  • Daily, follow all federal, provincial, and municipal regulations for safety during all grow and cultivation operations;

  • Familiar with and follow the Cannabis Act and its regulations; follow GMP standards;

  • Personal Protective Equipment must be worn; gowning and area procedures must be followed as per SOP Proper Protective Equipment and SOP Employee Health Hygiene and Dress Code Policy.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary or in Agriculture/Horticulture and/or any other related discipline an asset.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) is an asset.

  • Experience in cannabis, farming, vegetable, or nursery grow operation an asset.

  • Experience in and knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is considered an asset.

  • Experience in the cultivation of cannabis or other sensitive commercial crops is considered an asset.

  • Demonstrate necessary comprehension of mathematics and the English language.

  • Must be bondable.

Physical Demands

These physical demands are characteristic of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully and safely perform the necessary duties of the job.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to:

  • On occasion, lift weight up to 25kgs push and pull carts

  • Use their hands and fingers to handle scissors or trimmers. Use of manual dexterity is required

  • Required to stand or sit for long periods, balance, walk, reach with arms and hands, bend or twist, and stoop, kneel crouch/squat

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Working Conditions

While carrying out the responsibilities of the job, the following work environment characteristics are typical of the setting the employee will encounter:

  • On occasion, lift weight up to 25kgs push and pull carts

  • The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate, and increases when alarms sound

  • Personal Protective Equipment needs to be worn as required

  • Work at heights (scissor cart lift), under intense lighting, with strong odours, and in humidity and hot temperatures.

  • This position includes potential exposure to pollen, molds, mildew, insects, plant debris, & chemicals.

  • Must be able to work with all forms of cannabis.
